Our November 2010 magazines have arrived, and the Aussie dollar makes them much cheaper.
Somerset Studio November December 2010 page 30 if you love the look of encoustics you will love this article by Bridgette Guerzon Mills, very good instructions, visuals great too.The feature Artist Portfolio in this Somerset Studio issue is Jesse Reno, amazing art, his classes at Artfest are a sell out. I must say I love this work.Where Women Create Nov/Dec/Jan 2011 is another stunning issue of inspiring artists work spaces, above is Robin Brown of Magnolia Pearl, what an explosion of colour and vintage items only a workspace that some of us can only dream about, but lots of ideas here.Anne Cook is another artists workspace I have chosen to share with you in WWC a very neat and orderly space. Be quick for this issue as we sell out fast.

Artful Blogging Nov/Dec/Jan 2011, this magazine covers a wide range of arts above is Sherry Mattia-Welch's blog, she shares her blogging experience with fabulous creative photo's. You can get a wealth of information on people's blogs, be it art, vintage finds, travel, knitting and on and on.the second pages I chose are on knitting by Leslie Friend, sharing tips on knitting etc, knitting has become so much more in favour and finding like minded people on blogs is an easy way to go.Irinale Bugulmina reconstructs a lovely tweed coat in this article in Altered Couture Winter 2011 to make your own original style. This is made from vintage finds and made entirely by hand, although I am sure you could use a sewing machine if you are time challenged.This hosiery ensemble is way too cute, I just love how some young girls have become so creative wearing vintage clothing and putting their stamp on it, a time of glamour, does so go with high heels, love the knee high sox.

These are some of the article that I particularly like but there is so much more inside each magazine. Stampington put out beautiful magazines fulled with information and techniques but very creative artists in each field. Now I must go have a better read on Jesse Reno!!!!

We are going to utilise this blog for a brief preview on new Somerset Magazines as they come in, and also any new products hopefully with a sample.

Somerset Workshop Autumn 2010 great for learning techniques from artists whose work we love in this magazine Lisa Englebrecht, Ruth Rae and Pam Carriker just to name a few. Above is Pam Carriker's Brush less Backgrounds learn how to dab with a bingo dauber, spray with a pump action sprayer, use masking tape and lots more. Lisa has a lovely soft palette of colours.

Ruth Rae is a favourite of mine, see the beautiful poetry pinafore and other fabric art, learn how Ruth layers her fabric and stitchery.

Somerset Life Volume 4 Issue 4 is a lovely magazine for those who love vintage, shabby chic and creating a lovely home with items they have made. This issue has lots of ideas for wrapping gifts, great with Christmas coming upon us. Above Kelsi Maree Borland interviews Artist Ann Perry, learn how she uses those lovely ruched pockets that we are sometimes lucky enough to find in old suitcases, and finds a new use for them as hanging pockets to store your treasures.Above a seed packet surprise by Becky Shander see how to make these really gorgeous packets and fill with seeds from your garden, what a great gift popped into a planter for a special friend.Prims Art inspired by a bygone era Volume 1 Issue 2 this is only the 2nd issue of this magazine, the first one we had to re order as it sold out quickly. If you like primitive style hand made dolls this is the magazine for you. Paper Mache, cloth, clay are some of the materials used. Above Best Witches and Scaredy Cats by Dianne Barbieri Waldron created these great Halloween creatures made in polymer clay, plenty of time to make these before Halloween.

From sketch to clay to mold by Deebee Thibualt make these delightful dolls and display year around.

Santa & His Ornamental balloons made by Lance Perry a folk artist, how quirky is he, you could make him in time for Christmas and have decorations that no one else has. These are just a few of the items in Prims, so many more that are wonderful.Haute Handbags Autumn 2010 do you have a handbag fetish, some people do! With this magazine you can learn how to make handmade purses, clutches and altered bags. Above Chantal Johnson bought this wonderful green vintage felt purse, it has been re purposed with fabric, ribbons and other assorted items, now a snazzy little number that you would be proud to have hanging on your arm.Lisa Bebi hand painted these canvas bags, great for carrying your shopping, how environmental are they. Oh, there is one with a Scottish Terrier painted on the front. These would be great to make as gifts or to keep for yourself. There are items made out of felt, burlap, rug hooked, crochet etc.Jewelry affaire autumn 2010 this is a relatively new magazine, 2nd copy only, printed to meet the huge demand of the popularity of making jewellery. Sweet Silver by Brenda Ackley makes jewellery from antique and thrift shop. Ornate forks, spoons, knives etc are turned into bracelets, earrings, necklaces and many other items. Brenda says part of the appeal of this jewellery is in the hunt for the old items. what a great way to rework your cutlery. Silver is such an expensive metal now, why not reuse old silver.

Deb Hodge likes to add fabric to her jewellery, she has added some bling to these cuffs, wow look at those ruffles. Ruffles where the bane of my sewing classes at school, I avoid doing them when I can. Deb also likes to reuse vintage jewellery, she also shares with you her roses made from items such as ribbon, vintage seam binding, torn linen, antique lace and vintage buttons. All this and more from jewellery artists.Somerset Memories Volume 9 Issue 2 Autumn 2010 artistic scrapbooking and more. If you love scrapbooking and want to raise your work to a new level, this advanced scrapbooking magazine is for you. Above is a vintage Family Album by Rachel Rydel size 7" x 9". This great little book would be great to make as a gift for someone special to share your memories. Rachel uses lots of vintage as well as new materials in soft vintage colours.These pages by scrapartist Laurie Ann Anderson are so lovely in their simplicity. Laurie has done these digitally but I am sure the layout could be done manually creating more layers and texture. I am going to have a go, it is one of my favourite design of scrapbooking, simple, softer colours and not too busy.

We have more copies of the Workshop and Life, the others we are testing the water to see if there is a demand, some we will only get for order only after testing the demand. Each of these issues are $22.50 each which if reflecting our improving dollar against the USA, soon it will be dollar for dollar, wish the freight would improve as well, oh well that's the price we pay to bring in these quality magazines.
